iExplore Narrative Assessment

Learner: Melissa, Micah, James and Marcus                     Learning Coach: Mr Hattie              Date: 29 October 2015
Learning Area: Learning Habitat Two - iExplore
Learning Observed
Melissa, Micah, James, and Marcus are part of the ‘How to - Instructional Writing’ iExplore group. They are looking at making superhero badges and being able to create instructions to go with these. Today we explored how to use the iPad program ‘Comic life’, to present our instructions. In iExplore time today I overheard lots of discussion as to where the best place to put a speech bubble was. Micah mentioned “it can’t be there we won't see the writing.” Melissa was saying that the speech bubble needed to be more in the center. James and Marcus were working out what the best thing to say for this photo. I was impressed with the collaboration skills they were demonstrating.

Key Competencies/Vision Principles
The Key Competencies I observed are “THINKING” about where things go and what to say for each photo. The Vision Principles being used are “COLLABORATION” as they work together to create their comic. They are “CONNECTING” their CAPABILITIES” in writing to create their instructions.
Next Learning Steps
The next learning steps for Melissa, Micah, Marcus and James are:
  • use correct starting vocabulary for instructional writing, such as next, then, after or step.
  • Use dialogue to help explain their instruction.
  • Show their capabilities in writing to help explain their instructions.
